Lucy Parker
Lucy Parker (Southern Sierra Miwok, Coast Miwok, Pomo, Mono Lake Paiute) comes from a long line of basket makers. She is a great granddaughter of expert weaver and innovator Lucy Tom Telles (Yosemite Miwok – Paiute). As a young child in Yosemite National Park, Lucy began learning basket weaving and other key cultural skills. She works closely with her mother, Julia F. Parker (Pomo). Lucy is an active demonstrator and lecturer in the Yosemite area near her home and throughout California and the United States. Her baskets are in notable museum collections including the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian. Lucy works with park services and land management organizations educating the public and government agencies and advocating for the protection and preservation of traditional land management for weaving and gathering sites.
