Nuj Sis Loob

Nuj Sis Loob (often spelled Nuj Sis Lub or Nuj Sis Looj) is a legendary figure in Hmong folklore revered as one of the greatest masters of the qeej (also spelled qheng or kheng), the traditional Hmong musical wind pipe. In Hmong history, one is celebrated for playing the instrument with such profound emotion that even animals and nature would stop to listen. In the contemporary Hmong community, Tony Lor is a recognized qeej player and teacher based in Merced, California, who studied under Boua Chou Xiong. He actively works to sustain this traditional art form, often performing and educating through cultural initiatives associated with the legacy of Nuj Sis Loob.
